Text Box: Congratulations to Eau Gallie High School’s Division III Large and Small of It team which placed FIRST at the 2007 World Finals at Michigan State University! What is Odyssey of the Mind? Odyssey of the Mind is an international creative problem-solving program open to students in K-12, as well as those attending college. It provides opportunities for students to “think outside the box” while learning teamwork, brainstorming, and respect for individuals’ strengths. Teams of 5-7 students select a problem from one of the five (plus primary) released each year. They meet weekly to create a unique solution to the problem. Along the way, the team creates props, a skit, costumes and other elements needed in their solution. Teams are evaluated at competition in three areas: the long term solution, style (the wow), and spontaneous (thinking on their feet). After months of practice, teams from the Brevard County area take part in a regional competition at BCC Melbourne Campus on February 16, 2008. Teams that place are invited to participate in the state finals at UCF in Orlando on April 5, 2008. State champions are then invited to compete at the international level at the University of Maryland Odyssey of the Mind World Finals May 31–June 3, 2008.
