Getting Started |
|
First, schools must purchase a membership from the international association. To do this, go to www.odysseyofthemind.com where you can download the form or apply online. The cost is $135 per membership NOT per team. The deadline for obtaining a membership is January 4, 2009. Next, students and coaches form teams and begin meeting to work on team building skills. This is a great time to begin working on spontaneous problems. After the membership packet arrives, teams determine which problem they would like to solve. The five problems include: (1) vehicle , (2) technical, (3) the classics (literature/painting/music), (4) balsa wood structure, and (5) the theatrical problem. Then the team must register with the state association and pay $75+$3 (online convenience fee in state fees. To register, go to www.floridaodysseyofthemind.org. The deadline for registering is December 15, 2009. After the deadline, the team must pay an additional $20 in late fees. The Primary teams’ registration fee is $20+$3 (online convenience fee). You may choose to register without making the online payment, after which time you send your team fees ($75 for division 1-4 & $20 for primary) to Laird Parsons at 4131 Aberdeen Circle Viera,FL 32940. Don’t forget… each team must provide a worker and judge for the regional competition. Go to our forms page on this site to download these. They should be sent to Sharmaine Schenck at 1195 Sunnybrook Ln Rockledge, FL 32955. Finally, practice, practice, practice! Your team of students is in for an unforgettable experience! (Helpful hint: Don’t forget to read the PROGRAM GUIDE carefully and of course, read the problem...read the problem...read the problem!) Remember, Odyssey of the Mind is not about the solution but the JOURNEY!
