Make sure to read the program guide.  It contains rules that apply to every team and is updated yearly.

Long-term problems are written to provide just enough guidance to solve the problem without limiting creativity. If a team has questions about the interpretation of the Long-Term Problem limitations, they may submit for a clarification.  Check clarifications often to see updates to your problem!

Clarifications
Every team participates in Spontaneous.  It is important to practice Spontaneous skills!  It can mean the difference in a team advancing to the next level of competition or not.
Spontaneous Info
Remember that you cannot solve the problem based on the synopsis alone.  You must buy a membership in order to get the full set of rules.  If you need help at any stage, whether it's getting started or even how to ask questions about the problems, please contact us!  We want you to make great lifelong memories with Odyssey of the Mind and we have many people to help you at any step in your journey.
What to expect for your team's Long Term Competition:

Teams should report to Weigh-in at their designated time with their structure and anything else the problem requires to be checked at Weigh-in.

If the structure or any other components of the problem do not meet specifications, Weigh-In judges will try to give the team an opportunity to bring it into specification or submit a different structure before the team’s competition time. In most cases, corrections should be completed no less than 20 minutes before competition time. There is no penalty if the structure is brought into specification before completing the Weigh-In process.

The structure will be weighed and measured. The team will then assemble/combine any other components of the problem with the structure into a bag.  A judge will provide the team with a bag, or the team can use its own container if it is approved by the Weigh-In officials to store the structure. The team will place the structure into the bag/container and the judge will attach a Weigh-In Checklist to it. The structure will remain at the Weigh-In Site until the team picks it up for competition.

Team members must report to the competition site (pre-staging) with everything they will use in their solution at least 20 minutes before they are scheduled to compete. This area is for the team and coaches only.  Family and friends should go to the performance area and find a seat before the scheduled performance time.

A member of the team will be escorted to retrieve the team's structure. The team is not allowed to remove the Weigh-In Checklist until directed to do so by the Staging Area Judge. If the Weigh-In Checklist has been removed, the bag or container tampered with, or the structure removed, the team may have to repeat the Weigh-In process. Depending on the situation, the team could receive a Spirit of the Problem penalty.

In Pre-Staging, a judge will look at the team's paperwork to make sure they have all the correct forms and look for any possible issues.  The judge expects the team (not the coach) to be able to answer any questions they might have.  The judge will also check for hazardous materials and appropriate foot coverings.  They will check for a correct membership sign and Pre-Staging Judges will ask the team if they will allow the audience to take video or flash photography during the performance.  The team should inform the judge if it expects to continue its performance after the structure breaks.  Should the team finish its performance before the structure breaks and has given the signal to end the performance, the team will be allowed to continue placing weights until any one of the criteria from C10 or C13 occurs.

When the Pre-Staging Judge is satisfied with the paperwork and when the other judges are ready, the team is escorted to the Staging Area.  The Announcer will then address the audience and team briefly.  They will ask the judges if they are ready and ask the team if they are ready.   They will then indicate that the team may begin their performance and they will start the time.

Teams will not present their solution before their scheduled time so that any audience members will not be excluded.  Teams may run late, but again, never early.

After the team has performed, the judges will approach the team to look at the props closer and to ask the team about their solution.  When the judges are finished, the team may have help removing their props and leave the area.

Coaches are encouraged to come back to the Long Term site and pick up their team's raw scores.  If there is an issue, coaches have 30 minutes to inquire about the issue.  Please note that you are not given your Style scores or your Spontaneous scores so you really cannot make a good guess as to where your team ranked in the overall competition.
