Want to start a team?

Getting Started

A team can be started by a teacher or parent, by a student, or any combination. Most teams compete through a school membership, but it can also be a church or established community group that is willing to sponsor a team or teams.
Your first step will be will be to check with the school (or other group) to see if they already participate in Odyssey of the Mind. If they do great! If not, you will need to get their agreement to purchase a membership with Creative Competitions, Inc. You will also need to plan to register with Florida Odyssey of the Mind (FLOMA).

Contact us and we will help you! We can help!

Form a team

Now you need to find a team of 5-7 students who like to use their imaginations to solve a problem by thinking outside the box! Team members are usually close in age, as the division you compete at is determined by the oldest member of the team.

Coach Needed!

Every team needs a Coach. This can be a teacher, a parent, or an adult leader.  So, if you are students you will need to find a coach.

Coaches can find more information in the Program Guide, at coach training events, and on the coaches page on this website.

Get Organized

At this point it's a good idea for the coach and the parents to have a meeting so the general guidelines can be discussed. Outside assistance is NOT allowed, so the parents need to know to let the kids figure out a solution.
Set a weekly meeting time and let the creativity start flowing!

Applications for scholarships and other awards can be found on the following pages:  (Deadline for all except OMer awards is January 31st)
